The Greatest is getting a divorce
The Greatest is getting a divorce
The one thing I hold on to in life has just made me a witness to the unthinkable. Money, time, and love cannot keep a relationship together, only God. We as humans grow into maturity and when we are involved with another person, sometimes we grow apart for various reasons. I hold on to my God’s every word because he is that third strand of strength to keeps my black love together, as life keeps testing me and my wife like never before. The sole reason I am writing this piece that woke me up on an early Saturday morning, a day shy of the eve of 2007. One of my hero’s is separating from the strength that held his family together. The strength that looked out for his best interest for 17 years as he propelled into a mythical image on the basketball court. When I sit and think about my own marriage and how it has evolved into a special relationship, I wondered to my self, how did this happen to the Jordan’s? I can only speculate, but only the parties involve really know what happen to come to the conclusion to break the union that God saw fit to put together. Out of that wedlock three children became some of the most famous kids in history, because of who their dad is and more importantly who their mother is. She stood by and watched a man who is still admired today even after his playing days were over by many, including my self, who is simply known to the world as Michael Jordan.
The Greatest Basketball player of all time, wife held down everything that made his storm the calm after turbulent news conferences and allegations of gambling and women that claim he fathered a child. In Juanita’s defense, you cannot forget about the lonely nights as he pursued to perfect his talent on the road, however one thing is for sure, they both benefited from the fruits of his labor. Marriage is about sticking it out and trying to resolve issues for the sake of love and the covenant with God. However, sometimes it just doesn’t work out. I applaud the Jordan’s for sticking it out for the length of time of 17 years. A lot of superstars marriages doesn’t last that long, that’s why I feel a little sad that it had to succumb to this. I understand what it takes to be marriage and I can only imagine the pressure of being married to a superstar who is globally known. Being married has a price for all parties included. It’s a lot of work and time committed to make it work all in the name of love.
Most people are looking at Michael and Juanita pending divorce as a money thing. Of course he is not going to hold back his monetary gain that he has acquired over the years. She will receive her fair share, as she rightfully deserved. Now this black love has become a public for a domain of reporters who are always looking for a story to write and report as they try to estimate his worth and how much she stands to gain. Their were a lot of divorces this year in 2006, too many that I care to mention. This one is a little sad to me because I am a fan, yet I now know that “Air” is finally looked at as a human being.
Black love is beautiful when it is known about and flourish between the good times and bad times. We learn as we grow and I pray that things work out for one of my hero’s and his soon to be beautiful former wife. I send a special prayer out to the Jordan’s for holding it together for 17 years, may God bless you and the children as your going through this difficult ordeal. You set the measuring stick in my eyes to try and reach and go beyond to keep my black love alive and flourishing. The greatest is getting a divorce, however the bond between him and Juanita will be there for the rest of their lives, because of the children and what they built together. That is something that can never be taking away. She was with him at his highest point and the lowest point, yet they endured it all and it was my pleasure to see that kind of love motivate me to be the best that I could be in my 13 years of marriage.
As I end this piece, I started to think about who is left in the black community of people we pay and watch to see in the business of entertainment. I will continue to look to Will and Jada Smith, Denzel and Pauletta Washington. Joseph “Run” and Justine Simmons, Bill and Camille Cosby and many others for inspirations as I reach new heights in my own marriage. .
