North Philly 1/5/05
Common sense ain’t common
Things come a dime a dozen
No longer are we distant cousins
Heard about a shooting on 22nd and Lehigh
Ran those streets in the 70’a and 80’s
I was lucky to get by
Sad to see youngsters fall from shots
Instead of a brawl
The snake continues to crawl
For the black youth
Here’s the truth
I wish it disappear like magic
POOF!
The more things change the more they stay the same
Cho was the name
In North Philly my ghetto there’s personal pain
Not of the state of mind
I had to go and get mine
Many came from the same streets
Like Jill Scott, Dawn Staley, Bo Kimble
Hank Gathers, Bill Cosby
Teddy P. and I went to the same school of elementary
North Philly ain’t the same no indeed
Brown skin human trees are falling from
Hot debris
So please
Embrace your culture and realize a dream
See I
Remember we use to trip over
Penny candy
Penny cookies
Video games at boogie Herm’s
Block parties and no violence
But to this the youth hasn’t learn
Not a bit of what they’re parents had to deal with
Back then it was easier
Now the kids are influence
By today’s music
We can’t get through to no better days
Until we change our ways
Pay homage to the battle that was
Fought!
Before we saw the light of day

See, you can't hear me, but I'm clapping right now and yelling, "encore, encore!" Very good, Cho... damn good.
